Arts Programming Coordinator

Directions Youth Services is a division of Family Services of Greater Vancouver (FSGV), which for more than 90 years has provided a variety of essential resources for children, families and individuals in the Greater Vancouver community. We believe in the resiliency of Vancouver’s youth who are at-risk, homeless, and street-involved. We assist youth under the age of 25 to get counselling for trauma, mental health or substance issues. Our teams strive to create spaces and build connections with youth who are facing challenges of street life, substance use, mental health concerns, and disconnection from their communities. Directions inclusive programs of shelter and drop-in, safe houses and other unique programs are committed to being a community leader in harm reduction work and fostering low-barrier spaces where all youth are welcome. The Arts Programming Coordinator is responsible for planning and coordinating program activities, developing and delivering program workshops, and providing support to youth accessing programs throughout Directions Youth Services. This person will participate in program development, community connections and identifying opportunities for skill development. This term position will oversee program volunteers, provide support and mentorship to the frontline staff and volunteers who are working with the youth. The dates of this position are from April 1st, 2023- March 31, 2024. Responsibilities: What you bring: • Coordinate Community Engagement Room operations and resources • Plan, organize and implement appropriate arts programming engagement and educational activities • Maintain and develop relationships with community stakeholders and partners • Coordinate and oversee program volunteers • Collaborate and provide arts programming to programs across Directions division Knowledge, Skills, Abilities • Knowledge of program management and development procedures • Knowledge of community, social and health resources that is relevant to youth, specifically MCFD • Knowledge of the systemic issues that affect low income and marginalized young people • Knowledge of adolescent development and issues relating to at risk and homeless youth; these include mental health issues, alcohol and drug misuse and addictions and sexual exploitation • Knowledge of youth empowerment, youth engagement and working with diverse groups • Knowledge of and belief in the Harm Reduction model • Ability to work in a gender and culturally diverse population • Ability to deal effectively with conflict situations, mediates, manage aggressive behavior, and use non-violent crisis intervention and behavioral management techniques • Knowledge of computers and relevant software: word processing, database systems, internet and email • Excellent time management skills, ability to prioritize and manage a varied list of responsibilities and challenges and meeting deadlines Qualifications: Education, Training, Experience • Bachelor’s degree in social work, youth care, or related field • Three (3) years’ experience working with homeless and/or at-risk youth, plus one (1) year experience with program coordination and leadership • Or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience Additional Requirements • Successful completion of criminal record check • Current First Aid, CPR • Non Violent Intervention Training • Food Safe Level • Proof of Covid-19 vaccination status will be required How to Apply: If this describes you, please submit your application to us through our website, https://fsgv.ca/careers/ Only short-listed candidates will be contacted for interviews.
