Financial Review Officer

Finance Services is currently looking to staff the Financial Review Officer position, and to create a pool of qualified candidates. The Financial Review Officer exercises certification of financial information through reviews, analyses and reconciliations and performs assessments, drafts conclusions and makes recommendations with a view to assess financial management and compliance with financial policies, procedures, acts and regulations and generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP). The Financial Review Officer leads and advocates the consistent use of best practices in the areas of accounting operations and corporate accounting through the development and maintenance of accounting procedures in compliance with Corporate and Members’ policies, internal controls and directives and the delivery of training, coaching and guidance to employees and clients. We are the centre of expertise in accounting and financial support. Our team is responsible for the interpretation and application of accounting standards in support of the House of Commons’ commitment to financial accountability. We provide accurate and timely advice to support budget management and decision making. Working within our team will give you exposure to the main functions of Finance Services at the House of Commons.

You will be ingrained in the main service lines supporting a variety of clients including: Members’ of Parliament and their employees, House Officers, and the House of Commons Administration. Training and development opportunities Work-life balance / 35-hour workweek 4 weeks’ vacation (minimum) Qualifications Education : University degree from a recognized institution in finance, commerce or business administration OR an equivalent combination of education, training and/or extensive relevant experience in a related field. Experience : Experience in providing financial advisory services; Experience conducting and/or directing the review of financial transactions; Experience in applying accounting principles and practices, including financial and/or accounting policies and best practices; Experience resolving financial problems; Extensive experience using the MS-Office Excel software. Assets : Experience in dealing with high profile clients such as Members, House Officers and executives; Recognized accreditation in the field of accounting (CPA, CMA, CGA or CA), in-progress or completed; Experience using an Integrated Financial System such as PeopleSoft, Agresso or SAP.
