About the Role: Reporting to the Vice President Tax, this role is critical in supporting tax related activities across the Wittington Group of companies including corporate tax advisory, compliance and administration. What will you do?. Assist with various reorganizations and transactions with a focus on analyzing the tax implications and mitigating tax risk, including managing a global investment portfolio with public securities, private equity, hedge funds, venture funds and other direct assets.
Manage, review and/or prepare corporate and partnership tax returns and any other tax filings required by the corporate group, including T1134s and country-by-country reporting. Assist with tax research based on current and proposed tax legislation, including reviewing or preparing tax memoranda and assisting with presentations to various stakeholders. Manage government tax audits (domestic and international) including the preparation of information to be provided to Canadian tax authorities. Assist with tax advisory activities both domestically and in international jurisdictions.
Partner with both legal and accounting teams on both daily and non-recurring transactions Build relationships with tax authorities, advisors and elated public company tax departments. Manage the implementation and documentation of new and existing processes and controls with a continuous improvement mindset utilizing technology whenever possible. Tax reporting, including preparation of annual tax provisions and related assistance with external financial statement audit. Work with tax advisors on tax strategies and structuring proposals Act as a key business partner and provide tax advice to various functions across the Wittington Group of companies.
Stay abreast of evolving tax legislation. What do you need to succeed?. Excellent verbal and interpersonal communication skills, with a demonstrated ability to liaise with all levels of management. Strong organizational and analytical skills with a proven ability to handle multiple priorities and see projects to completion.
Detail-oriented with the ability to multi-task and manage multiple projects. Energetic attitude with the ability to work independently or as part of a team. Excellent presentation skills Education and Experience: Designated Chartered Professional Accountant with 4-6 years of experience in a comparable tax role (including a minimum of 2 years management experience). Completion of CICA In-Depth Tax Course or Master of Taxation Degree Canadian tax compliance and income tax provision experience in a professional services firm and/or industry, as well as experience in corporate tax research Experience with Canadian Controlled Private Corporations is a huge asset.
