Senior Credit Risk Manager

Job Summary: The Senior Manager, Adjudication directly reports to the Director, Credit Adjudication and plays a key role in assessing all deals (Commercial, Corporate & Residential) submitted for approval. This position entails overseeing the adjudication process, ensuring compliance with established Bank Policies and Procedures, and maintaining high-quality assets within the loan portfolio. Additionally, the Senior Manager will contribute to policy development, ensure adherence to guidelines, and facilitate the training and development of managers and adjudicators to enhance credit risk management across the Bank. Responsibilities and Duties: Provide Effective Challenge of comprehensive loan analysis conducted by the underwriting team of CRD to ensure well-justified approvals.
Assess loan cases (Commercial, Corporate & Residential) to make informed lending decisions, including but not limited to: new loans, renewals, change of loan conditions, and other relevant applications, in accordance with Bank Policies and Procedures. Validate all necessary information required for thorough loan analysis and ensure compliance with policy, guidelines, and regulatory expectations. Offer alternative structures and/or funding conditions as appropriate to address challenges during adjudication. Review credit packages for policy compliance, structural integrity, and creditworthiness prior to submission for due diligence.
Oversee loans adjudicated by managers/junior adjudicators to ensure prudent credit risk assessment. Make sound lending decisions within authority limits or escalate cases to the Director Adjudication/Loan Committee if exceeding lending authority. Review due diligence reports related to appraisal, environmental assessments, and building conditions. Research and maintain records on market conditions (e.g., vacancy rates, rental rates, property values) for informed decision-making.
Provide recommendations and insights to identify early signs of credit deterioration and produce ad-hoc credit risk reports for management and board reporting. Document functional requirements effectively using various methods including client interviews, stakeholder feedback, requirements workshops, surveys, and workflow analysis. Ensure adherence to Policy, Procedure, and Guidelines in collaboration with CRD Underwriting and other Head Office Departments. Assist in responding to recommendations/requests from OSFI, Internal Audit, and the parent bank.
Support initiatives proposed by the Chief Risk Officer and senior management to improve operational efficiencies and work management practices in credit dispensation. Perform other relevant duties as assigned. Qualifications and Skills: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent, preferably in Finance, Accounting, or Economics. 5 years of direct experience in Credit Areas (Commercial, Corporate & Residential). Strong understanding of Commercial banking/Syndicated loan business, including credit agreements, deal structures, and loan funding mechanics.
Proficient in financial statement analysis, cash flow analysis, and credit analysis. Computer literacy in MS Office, Bloomberg/Reuters. Familiarity with OSFI’s B-20 guidelines and legal documentation. Knowledge of corporate finance and financial accounting is beneficial.
Understanding of lending and trading products and portfolio stress indicators. Preferred experience in people management. Excellent presentation skills. Knowledge of bank policies, procedures, and government regulations.
