The City of Toronto is looking for two temporary, full-time (24 months each) Senior Technical Support Specialist 1 (SAP Technical/BASIS Administrators). As a member of the SAP Technical/BASIS Admin team within a certified SAP Customer Centre of Expertise (COE), you will report to the Manager of SAP & Technical Solution Services (STSS). STSS is responsible for an SAP landscape used by most City divisions, consisting of SAP ERP Central Component (ECC), S/4HANA, SAP GRC, SAP Ariba, SAP SuccessFactors, Business Warehouse (BW), Business Intelligence (BOBI), SAP Analytics Cloud (SAC), SAP Mobile Platform (SMP), SAP Public Budget Formulation (PBF), Fiori, Enterprise Portal (EP), and Solution Manager.

The City’s SAP ecosystem also includes the following supporting products: SAP Cloud Connector, SAP Data Services/Information Steward, SAP Identity Provisioning and Authentication (IPS/IAS), SAP Enable Now (SEN), SAP Landscape Management (LaMa), SAP HANA Cockpit, and SAP Diagnostics by CA Wily. The City’s on-premise SAP platforms reside on IBM Power, Linux, and MS Windows virtualized platforms with SAP HANA databases in support of Sandbox, Development, QA, Training, Pre-production, and Production environments. Your role as an SAP Technical/BASIS Admin requires you to provide technical leadership, support, and guidance to sustainment teams responsible for daily operations. You will also be required to provide consulting services to project teams requiring SAP platform implementation and sustainment services.

Additionally, you will be responsible for contributing to and establishing standards, procedures, and guidelines related to SAP system administration and system operations, within the corporate framework. Responsibilities: As an SAP Technical/BASIS Administrator, your role encompasses a wide range of responsibilities. These include providing strategic project and operational support for SAP systems and their HANA databases across multiple on-premise, cloud and hybrid landscapes.

You’ll also be responsible for on-call support duties in a 24×7 production environment containing highly confidential information. Your duties will also involve leading the installation, configuration, and upgrade of SAP platforms/solutions, including Solution Manager, SAP NetWeaver, SAP Business Suite solutions, SAP HANA technologies, and associated components, and 3rd party tools on Windows, Linux, and IBM Power platforms. You are expected to implement strategies and best practices for the configuration, development, maintenance, and support of the SAP technical environment. You will ensure that SAP high-availability requirements are met through technical monitoring, analysis, and tuning of application and database workloads.

Troubleshooting, application of software patches, and implementation of SAP Notes will also be part of your responsibilities. You will lead the development of detailed strategy and technology roadmaps for SAP technical platform and components including migration from on-premise to cloud solutions. You will also design and review architecture solutions to meet the requirements for SAP products on HANA (e.g. S/4HANA, Solution Manager 7.2, BW) as well as HANA Enterprise.

You will establish City-wide standards, procedures, and guidelines (best practices) related to SAP system administration, system operation, high-availability, and change management within the corporate framework. You will perform system refreshes and coordinate backup and recovery services to meet business recovery requirements. Your duties will also involve the provision of advice and consultation to business users and other technical staff to determine requirements, research solutions, evaluate alternatives, and recommend architecture design, policies, and procedures for data integration, data security, network infrastructure, common software required, and the final product acquisition. You will supervise the day-to-day work output of staff and resources, including the scheduling, assigning, and reviewing of work tasks to ensure a continuing and consistent service in the sustainment of complex, critical enterprise business applications and information.

You’ll authorize and coordinate vacation and overtime requests. You will also monitor and evaluate staff performance, approve salary increments, hear grievances, and recommend disciplinary action when necessary. In addition, you will supervise, motivate, and train assigned staff, ensuring effective teamwork, high standards of work quality and organizational performance, continuous learning, and encouragement of innovation in others. You will prepare and/or supervise the preparation of various formal contractual documents such as Business Cases, Request For Information/Proposal/Quotation (RFI/P/Q), Statement Of Work (SOW), Memorandum Of Understanding (MOU), and Service Level Agreements (SLA) and participate in the evaluation and selection of technical solutions.

You will review, evaluate, recommend, and comment on emerging SAP technologies and business innovation for improving service, reducing costs, and enhancing efficiency on internal service improvement and cost efficiencies to the public. You will provide SAP technical administration assessments and recommendations of new technology trends on the effective use, acquisition, and integration of technology by the City. Furthermore, you will provide technical administration support to other areas of the City, including Agencies, in their implementation and operation of SAP solutions. You will analyze incidents and provide problem resolution in a collaborative way.

You will recommend, implement, and practice security, privacy, and quality assurance requirements consistent with MFIPPA, legislation, and corporate standards regarding storage retention and processing of confidential corporate and application data and information outputs. Your duties will also include providing input into and administering assigned budget, ensuring that expenditures are controlled and maintained within approved budget limitations. You will develop, manage, and report on detailed project plans. You will participate in effective recommendations with respect to project work assignments.

You will provide input into performance appraisals and disciplinary actions. You will negotiate with senior management, clients, and various stakeholders, often with competing and conflicting goals, objectives, and priorities. Key Qualifications: Your application for the role of Senior Technical Support Specialist 1 (SAP Technical/BASIS Administrator) should describe your qualifications as they relate to: Extensive experience as an SAP Technical/BASIS Administrator. SAP Certified Technology Professionals and Associates certifications are preferred.

Considerable experience in the installation, configuration, maintenance and monitoring of the SAP products, including: SAP ERP Central Component (ECC) 6.0 EHP8 on HANA, S/4HANA, SAP GRC, Business Warehouse (BW) 7.5 on HANA, Business Intelligence (BOBI) 4.3.x, including Lumira Designer/Discovery, SAP Ariba, SAP SuccessFactors, SAP Analytics Cloud (SAC), SAP Identity Provisioning and Authentication (IPS/IAS), SAP Mobile Platform (SMP) 3.x, Fiori, HANA Enterprise platform, NetWeaver Development Infrastructure (NWDI), Enterprise Portal (EP), Solution Manager including Technical Monitoring, SAP Cloud Connector, SAP Data Services/Information Steward, SAP Enable Now (SEN), SAP Landscape Management (LaMa), SAP Single Sign On 3.0 (SSO), SAP HANA Cockpit and SAP Diagnostics by CA Wily 10. Extensive experience in database administration for HANA, including back-up/recovery architectures and procedures. Extensive experience in capacity planning, system monitoring, performance tuning and problem determination for a complex SAP landscape in a large, diverse computing and telecommunication environment. Extensive experience in performing SAP system administration tasks in Unix/Linux environments.

SuSE (12) is preferred. Experience in the installation, configuration, maintenance and monitoring of S/4HANA. At least 1 full lifecycle implementation of S/4HANA with Fiori deployments is preferred. Experience in SAP integration technologies, including installation, configuration, administration, and monitoring, for connections to both SAP and non-SAP systems.

SAP Cloud Platform (SCP)/Business Technology Platform (BTP) experience is an asset. Experience with integration of SAP SaaS solutions with on-premise SAP deployments. Integration with SAP Ariba, Successfactors, Salesforce, and SAP Analytics Cloud is advantageous. Experience with the installation and administration of SAP products in virtualized on-premise and hyperscaler environments.

IBM PowerVM, Amazon AWS, and Google GCP are preferred. Experience using and configuring Solution Manager for Technical Monitoring and Change and Request Management (ChaRM). Experience in SAP life cycle and change management features and best practices. Experience in the implementation and configuration of SAP Single Sign On 3.0, integration of on-premise and cloud applications with LDAP, Kerberos, OAuth2 and SAML authentication protocols.

You must also have: Demonstrated ability in leading projects or teams, including demonstrated skills in using project management tools (ASAP/Agile methodologies preferred), applying methods and standards, estimating and tracking time and efforts, allocating and deploying resources, with proven track records in successfully completing projects according to an established methodology. Demonstrated efficiency and effectiveness in teamwork, facilitation, communications, conflict resolution, problem solving and crisis management and team leadership in projects, assignments and service engagements. Ability to analyze operational SAP technical issues in order to recommend immediate resolutions and the most effective approach to their implementation. Ability to prepare, organize and present business cases, proposals, solutions and budgets or similar formal documents and statements to various audiences, including stakeholders, clients and the public.

Demonstrated ability in supervising and training staff on an ongoing and/or project basis. Strong interpersonal skills and an aptitude to work independently and collaboratively with others in a multidisciplinary team setting.
