Senior underwriter – construction

As a member of our global brokerage team, you’ll help our clients address risk, protect assets and recover from losses. Overview: Excess Underwriting is a leading MGA headquartered in Markham Ontario. Consisting of four key divisions, Excess does business coast-to-coast. We are looking to bring on an experienced individual as Chief Underwriting Officer, reporting directly to the President, Excess Underwriting.

This individual will lead the Technical Underwriting side of the business in Property & Casualty lines, and provide leadership to the underwriters. This role will be a key member of the Senior Leadership team, and will influence the appetite and strategy moving forward. Responsibilities: Responsibilities Underwrites individual insurance applications to cover property and casualty with guidelines set for the issuance of policies on a standard or substandard basis.

Determines whether to accept, modify or decline a risk through evaluation of the property’s value, location, usage, and safety features, and other information pertinent to the decision. Has frequent contact with field to gather information on which to base and defend underwriting decisions. Meets organizational business targets for new business and renewals. Qualifications: Skills & Qualifications Bachelor’s degree and 5 years related experience required.

Experience with Construction Underwriting strongly required Track record of success working both independently and within a dynamic team environment Strong business relations skills Ability to analyze information and present in Excellent verbal and written communications skills Willing to provide mentorship to junior and intermediate underwriters. Previous Lloyd’s or MGA Experience considered an asset Gallagher offers competitive salaries and bonus plans.
