This role will work on a variety of Casualty and Specialty products with a key focus on Property, General Liability, and Financial Lines. In addition to underwriting a portfolio, this role will support evaluating credit risk and collateral required with our counterparties.

Duties and Responsibilities: Responsible for the production and underwriting of an assigned book of new and renewal business, including analysis of risk, negotiation of policy terms & conditions, fees, and collateral (amount and form), to ensure appropriate profitability and consistency with Liberty Mutual Canada’s corporate strategy. Work with other Liberty Mutual Canada underwriting teams to identify cross-marketing opportunities. Develop our position as a market leading insurer for alternative risk solutions and fronting. Establish and maintain strong relationships with target brokers & clients.

Provide market-leading customer service through effective prioritization and collaboration with the team. Continually develop and expand expertise in underwriting, risk analysis, financial statement analysis, collateral assessment, legal and legislative trends, providing recommendations to management on changes in strategy to address any emerging trends. Coordinate with other underwriting groups, finance, reinsurance and claims departments across the Liberty Mutual Group, as necessary, to ensure appropriate understanding of any fronted risk and policy form compliance. Mentor other members of Alternative Risk Solutions & Programs including underwriters and underwriting assistants in P&C product knowledge and underwriting development.

Perform related duties, presentations, special projects and assignments to assist in ensuring the success of Alternative Risk Solutions & Programs. Assist in the arrangement of admitted global placements, where applicable. Maintain financial analysis of portfolio for actuals compared to plan and forecast, as well as governance over key deliverables to clients. Represents Liberty at various industry and association events and meetings, as appropriate.

Skills & Qualifications: University degree or equivalent experience is required. Post-secondary education with relevant insurance designation(s)/education considered an asset. A minimum of 3-4 years of insurance industry experience in broking or underwriting, with a preference to P&C coverages. Self-starter with strong analytical skills, in addition to strong business and interpersonal communication skills.

Strong market and broker relationships is an asset. Experience in the reviewing and analysis of financial statements is an asset. Excellent organizational and time management skills. Relevant insurance designations and education is an asset.
